CWE-787 01/05/2026
comedi: me_daq: Fix potential overrun of firmware buffer
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
comedi: me_daq: Fix potential overrun of firmware buffer
`me2600_xilinx_download()` loads the firmware that was requested by
`request_firmware()`. It is possible for it to overrun the source
buffer because it blindly trusts the file format. It reads a data
stream length from the first 4 bytes into variable `file_length` and
reads the data stream contents of length `file_length` from offset 16
onwards. Although it checks that the supplied firmware is at least 16
bytes long, it does not check that it is long enough to contain the data
stream.
Add a test to ensure that the supplied firmware is long enough to
contain the header and the data stream. On failure, log an error and
return `-EINVAL`.

usb: gadget: f_uac1_legacy: validate control request size
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
usb: gadget: f_uac1_legacy: validate control request size
f_audio_complete() copies req->length bytes into a 4-byte stack
variable:
u32 data = 0;
memcpy(&data, req->buf, req->length);
req->length is derived from the host-controlled USB request path,
which can lead to a stack out-of-bounds write.
Validate req->actual against the expected payload size for the
supported control selectors and decode only the expected amount
of data.
This avoids copying a host-influenced length into a fixed-size
stack object.

Out-of-bounds Write em Hashcat
A heap-based buffer overflow in hex_to_binary in the PKZIP hash parser in hashcat v7.1.2 allows an attacker to cause a denial of service or possibly execute arbitrary code via a crafted PKZIP hash file. The issue affects modules 17200, 17210, 17220, 17225, and 17230. When data_type_enum<=1, attacker-controlled hex data from a user-supplied hash string is decoded into a fixed-size buffer without proper input-length validation.

Out-of-bounds Write em Hashcat
A heap-based buffer overflow in the Kerberos hash parser in hashcat v7.1.2 allows an attacker to cause a denial of service or possibly execute arbitrary code via a crafted Kerberos hash file. The issue affects module_hash_decode in multiple Kerberos-related modules because account_info_len is calculated from untrusted delimiter positions without upper-bound validation before memcpy copies the data into a fixed-size account_info buffer.

Out-of-bounds Write em Hashcat
A stack-based buffer overflow in mangle_to_hex_lower() and mangle_to_hex_upper() in src/rp_cpu.c in hashcat v7.1.2 allows an attacker to cause a denial of service or possibly execute arbitrary code via a crafted rule file, or via the -j or -k rule options used with password candidates of 128 or more characters. The vulnerability is caused by a bounds check that fails to account for the 2x expansion that occurs when password bytes are converted to hexadecimal.

fs/ntfs3: validate rec->used in journal-replay file record check
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
fs/ntfs3: validate rec->used in journal-replay file record check
check_file_record() validates rec->total against the record size but
never validates rec->used. The do_action() journal-replay handlers read
rec->used from disk and use it to compute memmove lengths:
DeleteAttribute: memmove(attr, ..., used - asize - roff)
CreateAttribute: memmove(..., attr, used - roff)
change_attr_size: memmove(..., used - PtrOffset(rec, next))
When rec->used is smaller than the offset of a validated attribute, or
larger than the record size, these subtractions can underflow allowing
us to copy huge amounts of memory in to a 4kb buffer, generally
considered a bad idea overall.
This requires a corrupted filesystem, which isn't a threat model the
kernel really needs to worry about, but checking for such an obvious
out-of-bounds value is good to keep things robust, especially on journal
replay
Fix this up by bounding rec->used correctly.
This is much like commit b2bc7c44ed17 ("fs/ntfs3: Fix slab-out-of-bounds
read in DeleteIndexEntryRoot") which checked different values in this
same switch statement.

ksmbd: require minimum ACE size in smb_check_perm_dacl()
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
ksmbd: require minimum ACE size in smb_check_perm_dacl()
Both ACE-walk loops in smb_check_perm_dacl() only guard against an
under-sized remaining buffer, not against an ACE whose declared
`ace->size` is smaller than the struct it claims to describe:
if (offsetof(struct smb_ace, access_req) > aces_size)
break;
ace_size = le16_to_cpu(ace->size);
if (ace_size > aces_size)
break;
The first check only requires the 4-byte ACE header to be in bounds;
it does not require access_req (4 bytes at offset 4) to be readable.
An attacker who has set a crafted DACL on a file they own can declare
ace->size == 4 with aces_size == 4, pass both checks, and then
granted |= le32_to_cpu(ace->access_req); /* upper loop */
compare_sids(&sid, &ace->sid); /* lower loop */
reads access_req at offset 4 (OOB by up to 4 bytes) and ace->sid at
offset 8 (OOB by up to CIFS_SID_BASE_SIZE + SID_MAX_SUB_AUTHORITIES
* 4 bytes).
Tighten both loops to require
ace_size >= offsetof(struct smb_ace, sid) + CIFS_SID_BASE_SIZE
which is the smallest valid on-wire ACE layout (4-byte header +
4-byte access_req + 8-byte sid base with zero sub-auths). Also
reject ACEs whose sid.num_subauth exceeds SID_MAX_SUB_AUTHORITIES
before letting compare_sids() dereference sub_auth[] entries.
parse_sec_desc() already enforces an equivalent check (lines 441-448);
smb_check_perm_dacl() simply grew weaker validation over time.
Reachability: authenticated SMB client with permission to set an ACL
on a file. On a subsequent CREATE against that file, the kernel
walks the stored DACL via smb_check_perm_dacl() and triggers the
OOB read. Not pre-auth, and the OOB read is not reflected to the
attacker, but KASAN reports and kernel state corruption are
possible.

ksmbd: validate response sizes in ipc_validate_msg()
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
ksmbd: validate response sizes in ipc_validate_msg()
ipc_validate_msg() computes the expected message size for each
response type by adding (or multiplying) attacker-controlled fields
from the daemon response to a fixed struct size in unsigned int
arithmetic. Three cases can overflow:
KSMBD_EVENT_RPC_REQUEST:
msg_sz = sizeof(struct ksmbd_rpc_command) + resp->payload_sz;
KSMBD_EVENT_SHARE_CONFIG_REQUEST:
msg_sz = sizeof(struct ksmbd_share_config_response) +
resp->payload_sz;
KSMBD_EVENT_LOGIN_REQUEST_EXT:
msg_sz = sizeof(struct ksmbd_login_response_ext) +
resp->ngroups * sizeof(gid_t);
resp->payload_sz is __u32 and resp->ngroups is __s32. Each addition
can wrap in unsigned int; the multiplication by sizeof(gid_t) mixes
signed and size_t, so a negative ngroups is converted to SIZE_MAX
before the multiply. A wrapped value of msg_sz that happens to
equal entry->msg_sz bypasses the size check on the next line, and
downstream consumers (smb2pdu.c:6742 memcpy using rpc_resp->payload_sz,
kmemdup in ksmbd_alloc_user using resp_ext->ngroups) then trust the
unverified length.
Use check_add_overflow() on the RPC_REQUEST and SHARE_CONFIG_REQUEST
paths to detect integer overflow without constraining functional
payload size; userspace ksmbd-tools grows NDR responses in 4096-byte
chunks for calls like NetShareEnumAll, so a hard transport cap is
unworkable on the response side. For LOGIN_REQUEST_EXT, reject
resp->ngroups outside the signed [0, NGROUPS_MAX] range up front and
report the error from ipc_validate_msg() so it fires at the IPC
boundary; with that bound the subsequent multiplication and addition
stay well below UINT_MAX. The now-redundant ngroups check and
pr_err in ksmbd_alloc_user() are removed.
This is the response-side analogue of aab98e2dbd64 ("ksmbd: fix
integer overflows on 32 bit systems"), which hardened the request
side.

ksmbd: fix out-of-bounds write in smb2_get_ea() EA alignment
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
ksmbd: fix out-of-bounds write in smb2_get_ea() EA alignment
smb2_get_ea() applies 4-byte alignment padding via memset() after
writing each EA entry. The bounds check on buf_free_len is performed
before the value memcpy, but the alignment memset fires unconditionally
afterward with no check on remaining space.
When the EA value exactly fills the remaining buffer (buf_free_len == 0
after value subtraction), the alignment memset writes 1-3 NUL bytes
past the buf_free_len boundary. In compound requests where the response
buffer is shared across commands, the first command (e.g., READ) can
consume most of the buffer, leaving a tight remainder for the QUERY_INFO
EA response. The alignment memset then overwrites past the physical
kvmalloc allocation into adjacent kernel heap memory.
Add a bounds check before the alignment memset to ensure buf_free_len
can accommodate the padding bytes.
This is the same bug pattern fixed by commit beef2634f81f ("ksmbd: fix
potencial OOB in get_file_all_info() for compound requests") and
commit fda9522ed6af ("ksmbd: fix OOB write in QUERY_INFO for compound
requests"), both of which added bounds checks before unconditional
writes in QUERY_INFO response handlers.

rxrpc: Fix missing validation of ticket length in non-XDR key preparsing
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
rxrpc: Fix missing validation of ticket length in non-XDR key preparsing
In rxrpc_preparse(), there are two paths for parsing key payloads: the
XDR path (for large payloads) and the non-XDR path (for payloads <= 28
bytes). While the XDR path (rxrpc_preparse_xdr_rxkad()) correctly
validates the ticket length against AFSTOKEN_RK_TIX_MAX, the non-XDR
path fails to do so.
This allows an unprivileged user to provide a very large ticket length.
When this key is later read via rxrpc_read(), the total
token size (toksize) calculation results in a value that exceeds
AFSTOKEN_LENGTH_MAX, triggering a WARN_ON().

to ensure the ticket length does not exceed AFSTOKEN_RK_TIX_MAX,
bringing it into parity with the XDR parsing logic.

firmware: thead: Fix buffer overflow and use standard endian macros
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
firmware: thead: Fix buffer overflow and use standard endian macros
Addresses two issues in the TH1520 AON firmware protocol driver:
1. Fix a potential buffer overflow where the code used unsafe pointer
arithmetic to access the 'mode' field through the 'resource' pointer
with an offset. This was flagged by Smatch static checker as:
"buffer overflow 'data' 2 <= 3"
2. Replace custom RPC_SET_BE* and RPC_GET_BE* macros with standard
kernel endianness conversion macros (cpu_to_be16, etc.) for better
portability and maintainability.
The functionality was re-tested with the GPU power-up sequence,
confirming the GPU powers up correctly and the driver probes
successfully.

uuid: Missing buffer bounds check in `v3`/`v5`/`v6` when `buf` is provided
uuid is for the creation of RFC9562 (formerly RFC4122) UUIDs. Prior to 14.0.0, v3, v5, and v6 accept external output buffers but do not reject out-of-range writes (small buf or large offset). This allows silent partial writes into caller-provided buffers. This vulnerability is fixed in 14.0.0.

rust-openssl: Incorrect bounds assertion in aes key wrap
rust-openssl provides OpenSSL bindings for the Rust programming language. From to before 0.10.78, aes::unwrap_key() contains an incorrect assertion: it checks that out.len() + 8 <= in_.len(), but this condition is reversed. The intended invariant is out.len() >= in_.len() - 8, ensuring the output buffer is large enough. Because of the inverted check, the function only accepts buffers at or below the minimum required size and rejects larger ones. If a smaller buffer is provided the function will write past the end of out by in_.len() - 8 - out.len() bytes, causing an out-of-bounds write from a safe public function. This vulnerability is fixed in 0.10.78.

usbip: validate number_of_packets in usbip_pack_ret_submit()
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
usbip: validate number_of_packets in usbip_pack_ret_submit()
When a USB/IP client receives a RET_SUBMIT response,
usbip_pack_ret_submit() unconditionally overwrites
urb->number_of_packets from the network PDU. This value is
subsequently used as the loop bound in usbip_recv_iso() and
usbip_pad_iso() to iterate over urb->iso_frame_desc[], a flexible
array whose size was fixed at URB allocation time based on the
*original* number_of_packets from the CMD_SUBMIT.
A malicious USB/IP server can set number_of_packets in the response
to a value larger than what was originally submitted, causing a heap
out-of-bounds write when usbip_recv_iso() writes to
urb->iso_frame_desc[i] beyond the allocated region.
KASAN confirmed this with kernel 7.0.0-rc5:
BUG: KASAN: slab-out-of-bounds in usbip_recv_iso+0x46a/0x640
Write of size 4 at addr ffff888106351d40 by task vhci_rx/69
The buggy address is located 0 bytes to the right of
allocated 320-byte region [ffff888106351c00, ffff888106351d40)
The server side (stub_rx.c) and gadget side (vudc_rx.c) already
validate number_of_packets in the CMD_SUBMIT path since commits
c6688ef9f297 ("usbip: fix stub_rx: harden CMD_SUBMIT path to handle
malicious input") and b78d830f0049 ("usbip: fix vudc_rx: harden
CMD_SUBMIT path to handle malicious input"). The server side validates
against USBIP_MAX_ISO_PACKETS because no URB exists yet at that point.
On the client side we have the original URB, so we can use the tighter
bound: the response must not exceed the original number_of_packets.
This mirrors the existing validation of actual_length against
transfer_buffer_length in usbip_recv_xbuff(), which checks the
response value against the original allocation size.
Kelvin Mbogo's series ("usb: usbip: fix integer overflow in
usbip_recv_iso()", v2) hardens the receive-side functions themselves;
this patch complements that work by catching the bad value at its
source -- in usbip_pack_ret_submit() before the overwrite -- and
using the tighter per-URB allocation bound rather than the global
USBIP_MAX_ISO_PACKETS limit.
Fix this by checking rpdu->number_of_packets against
urb->number_of_packets in usbip_pack_ret_submit() before the
overwrite. On violation, clamp to zero so that usbip_recv_iso() and
usbip_pad_iso() safely return early.
