CVE-2026-33316 Alta · 8.1 CWE-284 24/03/2026
Vikunja’s Improper Access Control Enables Bypass of Administrator-Imposed Account Disablement
Vikunja is an open-source self-hosted task management platform. Prior to version 2.2.0, a flaw in Vikunja’s password reset logic allows disabled users to regain access to their accounts. The `ResetPassword()` function sets the user’s status to `StatusActive` after a successful password reset without verifying whether the account was previously disabled. By requesting a reset token through `/api/v1/user/password/token` and completing the reset via `/api/v1/user/password/reset`, a disabled user can reactivate their account and bypass administrator-imposed account disablement. Version 2.2.0 patches the issue.
CVE-2026-33315 Média · 4.3 CWE-288 24/03/2026
Vikunja has a 2FA Bypass via Caldav Basic Auth
Vikunja is an open-source self-hosted task management platform. Prior to version 2.2.0, the Caldav endpoint allows login using Basic Authentication, which in turn allows users to bypass the TOTP on 2FA-enabled accounts. The user can then access standard project information that would normally be protected behind 2FA (if enabled), such as project name, description, etc. Version 2.2.0 patches the issue.
CVE-2026-33313 Média · 4.3 CWE-639 24/03/2026
Vikunja has an IDOR in Task Comments Allows Reading Arbitrary Comments
Vikunja is an open-source self-hosted task management platform. Prior to version 2.2.0, an authenticated user can read any task comment by ID, regardless of whether they have access to the task the comment belongs to, by substituting the task ID in the API URL with a task they do have access to. Version 2.2.0 fixes the issue.
CVE-2026-33312 Média · 5.4 CWE-863 20/03/2026
Read-only Vikunja users can delete project background images via broken object-level authorization
Vikunja is an open-source self-hosted task management platform. Starting in version 0.20.2 and prior to version 2.2.0, the `DELETE /api/v1/projects/:project/background` endpoint checks `CanRead` permission instead of `CanUpdate`, allowing any user with read-only access to a project to permanently delete its background image. Version 2.2.0 fixes the issue.
CVE-2026-29794 Média · 5.3 CWE-807 20/03/2026
Vikunja has Rate-Limit Bypass for Unauthenticated Users via Spoofed Headers
Vikunja is an open-source self-hosted task management platform. Starting in version 0.8 and prior to version 2.2.0, unauthenticated users are able to bypass the application's built-in rate-limits by spoofing the `X-Forwarded-For` or `X-Real-IP` headers due to the rate-limit relying on the value of `(echo.Context).RealIP`. Unauthenticated users can abuse endpoints available to them for different potential impacts. The immediate concern would be brute-forcing usernames or specific accounts' passwords. This bypass allows unlimited requests against unauthenticated endpoints. Version 2.2.0 patches the issue.
CVE-2026-28268 Crítica · 9.8 CWE-640 27/02/2026
Vikunja Vulnerable to Account Takeover via Password Reset Token Reuse
Vikunja is an open-source self-hosted task management platform. Versions prior to 2.1.0 have a business logic vulnerability exists in the password reset mechanism of vikunja/api that allows password reset tokens to be reused indefinitely. Due to a failure to invalidate tokens upon use and a critical logic bug in the token cleanup cron job, reset tokens remain valid forever. This allows an attacker who intercepts a single reset token (via logs, browser history, or phishing) to perform a complete, persistent account takeover at any point in the future, bypassing standard authentication controls. Version 2.1.0 contains a patch for the issue.
CVE-2026-27819 Alta · 7.2 CWE-22 25/02/2026
Vikunja has Path Traversal in CLI Restore
Vikunja is an open-source self-hosted task management platform. Prior to version 2.0.0, the restoreConfig function in vikunja/pkg/modules/dump/restore.go of the go-vikunja/vikunja repository fails to sanitize file paths within the provided ZIP archive. A maliciously crafted ZIP can bypass the intended extraction directory to overwrite arbitrary files on the host system. Additionally, we’ve discovered that a malformed archive triggers a runtime panic, crashing the process immediately after the database has been wiped permanently. The application trusts the metadata in the ZIP archive. It uses the Name attribute of the zip.File struct directly in os.OpenFile calls without validation, allowing files to be written outside the intended directory. The restoration logic assumes a specific directory structure within the ZIP. When provided with a "minimalist" malicious ZIP, the application fails to validate the length of slices derived from the archive contents. Specifically, at line 154, the code attempts to access an index of len(ms)-2 on an insufficiently populated slice, triggering a panic. Version 2.0.0 fixes the issue.
CVE-2026-27616 Alta · 7.3 CWE-79 25/02/2026
Vikunja Vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) via Unsanitized SVG Attachment Upload Leading to Token Exposure
Vikunja is an open-source self-hosted task management platform. Prior to version 2.0.0, the application allows users to upload SVG files as task attachments. SVG is an XML-based format that supports JavaScript execution through elements such as <script> tags or event handlers like onload. The application does not sanitize SVG content before storing it. When the uploaded SVG file is accessed via its direct URL, it is rendered inline in the browser under the application's origin. As a result, embedded JavaScript executes in the context of the authenticated user. Because the authentication token is stored in localStorage, it is accessible via JavaScript and can be retrieved by a malicious payload. Version 2.0.0 patches this issue.
CVE-2026-27575 Crítica · 9.1 CWE-521 25/02/2026
Vijkunja has Weak Password Policy Combined with Persistent Sessions After Password Change
Vikunja is an open-source self-hosted task management platform. Prior to version 2.0.0, the application allows users to set weak passwords (e.g., 1234, password) without enforcing minimum strength requirements. Additionally, active sessions remain valid after a user changes their password. An attacker who compromises an account (via brute-force or credential stuffing) can maintain persistent access even after the victim resets their password. Version 2.0.0 contains a fix.
CVE-2026-27116 Média · 6.1 CWE-79 25/02/2026
Vikunja has Reflected HTML Injection via filter Parameter in Projects Module
Vikunja is an open-source self-hosted task management platform. Prior to version 2.0.0, a reflected HTML injection vulnerability exists in the Projects module where the `filter` URL parameter is rendered into the DOM without output encoding when the user clicks "Filter." While `<script>` and `<iframe>` are blocked, `<svg>`, `<a>`, and formatting tags (`<h1>`, `<b>`, `<u>`) render without restriction — enabling SVG-based phishing buttons, external redirect links, and content spoofing within the trusted application origin. Version 2.0.0 fixes this issue.
CVE-2026-25935 Média · 5.4 CWE-79 11/02/2026
Vikunja Affected by XSS Via Task Preview
Vikunja is a todo-app to organize your life. Prior to 1.1.0, TaskGlanceTooltip.vue temporarily creates a div and sets the innerHtml to the description. Since there is no escaping on either the server or client side, a malicious user can share a project, create a malicious task, and cause an XSS on hover. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.1.0.
