CVE-2025-68215 — ice: fix PTP cleanup on driver removal in error path

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ice: fix PTP cleanup on driver removal in error path Improve the cleanup on releasing PTP resources in error path. The error case might happen either at the driver probe and PTP feature initialization or on PTP restart (errors in reset handling, NVM update etc). In both cases, calls to PF PTP cleanup (ice_ptp_cleanup_pf function) and 'ps_lock' mutex deinitialization were missed. Additionally, ptp clock was not unregistered in the latter case. Keep PTP state as 'uninitialized' on init to distinguish between error scenarios and to avoid resource release duplication at driver removal. The consequence of missing ice_ptp_cleanup_pf call is the following call trace dumped when ice_adapter object is freed (port list is not empty, as it is required at this stage): [ T93022] ------------[ cut here ]------------ [ T93022] WARNING: CPU: 10 PID: 93022 at ice/ice_adapter.c:67 ice_adapter_put+0xef/0x100 [ice] ... Who exploits it and how urgent it is

A 0–100 score combining confirmed exploitation, ransomware and APT use, public exploits, EPSS and severity.

No exploitation signal in the sources consulted so far.
How the score was calculated
  • EPSS 0.1% (30-day exploitation probability)+0
  • Technical severity (high)+6

The score orders the patch queue; it does not replace your asset context (internet exposure, criticality, compensating controls).

Triage

Is it exploited, how likely is exploitation, what does it touch, and how severe do the sources call it.

Fixes and mitigations documented by the sources — linked to the original advisory.

No fix documented by the sources we poll. That does not mean none exists: check the vendor advisory.

Ordered from the record’s own fields — exposure first, because you cannot patch what you have not found. A rule-generated starting point.

  1. Identify exposed assets running the affected vendor/product/version combinations (Linux Linux).
  2. No fix documented in the sources: reduce exposure and monitor the vendor advisory.

What should defenders know first?

CVE-2025-68215 is "ice: fix PTP cleanup on driver removal in error path", rated High. It affects Linux (Linux); versions are in the scope table. It is not in CISA KEV, which does not rule out exploitation. CVSS 7.0 describes technical severity. EPSS 0.14% estimates the probability of exploitation in 30 days; neither replaces your asset context. First verify whether exposed or business-critical assets run the affected versions, apply vendor fixes or mitigations, and preserve logs for review.
