CVE-2026-115919 — ONNX: Out-of-Bounds Read in RNN/GRU/LSTM Shape Inference (Old Opsets, Missing Rank Check)

Open Neural Network Exchange (ONNX) is an open standard for machine learning interoperability. Prior to 1.22.0, RNNShapeInference_opset1_to_6() processes malformed RNN and LSTM nodes from opsets 1 through 6 and GRU nodes from opsets 3 through 6 without verifying that the first input has rank three. The function accesses dim(0) and dim(1) on an undersized protobuf shape, which can read outside the intended repeated field and terminate an application when onnx.shape_inference.infer_shapes() processes an untrusted model that can pass onnx.checker.check_model(). This issue is fixed in version 1.22.0.

Who exploits it and how urgent it is

A 0–100 score combining confirmed exploitation, ransomware and APT use, public exploits, EPSS and severity.

No exploitation signal in the sources consulted so far.
How the score was calculated
  • Technical severity (medium)+3

The score orders the patch queue; it does not replace your asset context (internet exposure, criticality, compensating controls).

Triage

Is it exploited, how likely is exploitation, what does it touch, and how severe do the sources call it.

Remediation

Fixes and mitigations documented by the sources — linked to the original advisory.

No fix documented by the sources we poll. That does not mean none exists: check the vendor advisory.

First 24 hours

Ordered from the record’s own fields — exposure first, because you cannot patch what you have not found. A rule-generated starting point.

  1. Identify exposed assets running the affected vendor/product/version combinations (Onnx Onnx).
  2. No fix documented in the sources: reduce exposure and monitor the vendor advisory.
  3. Search available logs for exploit probes matching the vulnerability class (memory corruption), errors and authentication anomalies.

What should defenders know first?

CVE-2026-115919 is "ONNX: Out-of-Bounds Read in RNN/GRU/LSTM Shape Inference (Old Opsets, Missing Rank Check)", rated Medium. It affects Onnx (Onnx); versions are in the scope table. It is not in CISA KEV, which does not rule out exploitation. CVSS 6.2 describes technical severity. First verify whether exposed or business-critical assets run the affected versions, apply vendor fixes or mitigations, and preserve logs for review.
