CVE-2026-46260 — ipv6: Fix out-of-bound access in fib6_add_rt2node().

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ipv6: Fix out-of-bound access in fib6_add_rt2node(). syzbot reported out-of-bound read in fib6_add_rt2node(). [0] When IPv6 route is created with RTA_NH_ID, struct fib6_info does not have the trailing struct fib6_nh. The cited commit started to check !iter->fib6_nh->fib_nh_gw_family to ensure that rt6_qualify_for_ecmp() will return false for iter. If iter->nh is not NULL, rt6_qualify_for_ecmp() returns false anyway. Let's check iter->nh before reading iter->fib6_nh and avoid OOB read. Who exploits it and how urgent it is

A 0–100 score combining confirmed exploitation, ransomware and APT use, public exploits, EPSS and severity.

No exploitation signal in the sources consulted so far.
How the score was calculated
  • EPSS 0.1% (30-day exploitation probability)+0
  • Technical severity (high)+6

The score orders the patch queue; it does not replace your asset context (internet exposure, criticality, compensating controls).

Triage

Is it exploited, how likely is exploitation, what does it touch, and how severe do the sources call it.

Ordered from the record’s own fields — exposure first, because you cannot patch what you have not found. A rule-generated starting point.

  1. Identify exposed assets running the affected vendor/product/version combinations (Linux Linux, Linux Linux Kernel).
  2. Apply the fixed version or the patch documented under Remediation.
  3. Search available logs for exploit probes matching the vulnerability class (memory corruption), errors and authentication anomalies.

What should defenders know first?

CVE-2026-46260 is "ipv6: Fix out-of-bound access in fib6_add_rt2node().", rated High. It affects Linux (Linux); versions are in the scope table. It is not in CISA KEV, which does not rule out exploitation. CVSS 7.8 describes technical severity. EPSS 0.12% estimates the probability of exploitation in 30 days; neither replaces your asset context. First verify whether exposed or business-critical assets run the affected versions, apply vendor fixes or mitigations, and preserve logs for review.
