CVE-2026-84313 — Nginx UI: TOTP / passkey enrolment requires no re-authentication, enabling persistent account takeover

Nginx UI is a web user interface for the Nginx web server. Prior to 2.4.1, POST /api/otp_enroll and POST /api/finish_passkey_register are registered outside RequireSecureSession and accept a normal authenticated session without verifying the current password. An attacker with a stolen JWT can bind an attacker-controlled TOTP secret when the victim has not already enabled TOTP, or can register an attacker-controlled passkey because that path has no equivalent existing-enrollment guard. These changes create persistent account access that can survive a password change and interfere with the legitimate user's authentication. This issue is fixed in version 2.4.1.

Who exploits it and how urgent it is

A 0–100 score combining confirmed exploitation, ransomware and APT use, public exploits, EPSS and severity.

No exploitation signal in the sources consulted so far.
How the score was calculated
  • EPSS 0.4% (30-day exploitation probability)+5
  • Technical severity (high)+6
  • CISA SSVC: exploitation "poc"+5

The score orders the patch queue; it does not replace your asset context (internet exposure, criticality, compensating controls).

Triage

Is it exploited, how likely is exploitation, what does it touch, and how severe do the sources call it.

Remediation

Fixes and mitigations documented by the sources — linked to the original advisory.

No fix documented by the sources we poll. That does not mean none exists: check the vendor advisory.

First 24 hours

Ordered from the record’s own fields — exposure first, because you cannot patch what you have not found. A rule-generated starting point.

  1. Identify exposed assets running the affected vendor/product/version combinations (0xJacky Nginx-ui).
  2. No fix documented in the sources: reduce exposure and monitor the vendor advisory.
  3. Search available logs for exploit probes matching the vulnerability class (authentication), errors and authentication anomalies.

What should defenders know first?

CVE-2026-84313 is "Nginx UI: TOTP / passkey enrolment requires no re-authentication, enabling persistent account takeover", rated High. It affects Nginx-ui (0xJacky); versions are in the scope table. It is not in CISA KEV, which does not rule out exploitation. CVSS 8.8 describes technical severity. EPSS 0.43% estimates the probability of exploitation in 30 days; neither replaces your asset context. First verify whether exposed or business-critical assets run the affected versions, apply vendor fixes or mitigations, and preserve logs for review.
