CVE-2026-85974
High · 7.4
CWE-297 Oct 12, 2026
Improper TLS hostname verification in Progress MarkLogic Server
Progress MarkLogic Server 12.x releases before 12.1.0 and 11.x releases before 11.3.7 do not consistently validate TLS certificate hostnames for certain outbound connections. A network-positioned attacker could exploit this weakness to intercept or modify communications with an affected service.

CWE-297 Oct 9, 2026
MariaDB Connector/C: libmariadb allowed cleartext password leakage on TLS hostname verification failure
MariaDB Connector/C is a C and C++ client library for connecting applications to MariaDB and MySQL databases. From 3.4.1 until 3.4.10, the MariaDB Connector/C libmariadb Zero-Configuration SSL authentication-switch logic checked certificate trust failure but did not reject a TLS hostname verification mismatch before selecting a non-hashing authentication plugin. An active man-in-the-middle attacker with a valid certificate for another hostname could request mysql_clear_password and obtain the database password inside the attacker-controlled TLS connection. Other MariaDB connectors are not affected. This issue is fixed in version 3.4.10.
CVE-2026-107938
Critical · 9.1
CWE-297 Oct 9, 2026
Apache CXF: The Netty HTTP client transport does not perform TLS hostname verification.
In Apache CXF, the Netty-based HTTP client transport (cxf-rt-transports-http-netty-client) did not verify that the hostname in the server’s TLS certificate matched the host being called. This applied over both HTTP/1.1 and HTTP/2, even when disableCNCheck was left at its default value of false. The certificate chain was validated against the configured trust store, but the endpoint’s identity was not. A network attacker able to intercept traffic could present any certificate trusted by the client, such as a publicly issued certificate for a domain they control, and impersonate the target service. They could then read or modify the exchanged messages, including credentials.
Users are recommended to upgrade to versions 4.2.4 or 4.1.9 or 3.6.13, which fix this issue.

CWE-297 Oct 8, 2026
FFmpeg before 8.1.3 and 9.x before 9.0.2 mbedTLS Hostname Verification Bypass for IP Hosts
FFmpeg before 8.1.3 and 9.x before 9.0.2 contains an improper certificate validation vulnerability in tls_open() of libavformat/tls_mbedtls.c, which skips hostname checks for IP-address hosts. Network attackers can intercept https, rtmps, or tls connections to IP-literal URLs with any trusted CA-issued certificate to read and tamper with streams.

High · 7.6
CWE-297 Sep 30, 2026
SSLContext.wrap_bio() missing validation of server_hostname parameter
ssl.SSLContext.wrap_bio() didn't require the server_hostname argument
to not be None if ssl.SSLContext.check_hostname was set. Due to a
missing parameter check in SSLObject, if the server_hostname argument
isn't supplied then hostname verification would be silently skipped.
This defect could lead to programs where certificate hostname verification
*appeared* to be succeeding with SSLContext.check_hostname = True and no
ValueError being raised due to misconfiguration.
If the program passes a server_hostname value that isn't an empty string
or None to any of these APIs then certificate hostname verification
proceeds as expected and the program is not affected by this vulnerability.
Mitigating this vulnerability doesn't require updating Python or applying
the patch. To mitigate, pass a valid non-None and non-empty
server_hostname value to SSLContext.wrap_bio(),
asyncio.create_connection(), or asyncio.loop.start_tls() and
certificate hostname verification will proceed as expected. Upgrading to
the latest version of Python or applying the patch only changes the
behavior from silently skipping hostname verification to raising a
ValueError, similar to SSLContext.wrap_socket(), when server_hostname
isn't supplied.

CWE-297 Sep 25, 2026
TLS Hostname Verification Falls Back to CN After SAN Mismatch
PHP's OpenSSL stream peer verification checks the certificate's subjectAltName entries first and, whenever no entry matches, falls back to the Common Name. RFC 6125 requires the CN to be ignored once the certificate presents any service identity, so a certificate carrying a non-matching DNS SAN was still accepted when its CN matched the requested peer_name. A certificate trusted by the client for one name can therefore be used to impersonate another.

Warpgate: Web SSH stores a jump host's key against the target's address, so it validates as the target
Warpgate is an open source SSH, HTTPS and MySQL bastion host for Linux. From 0.25.0 until 0.27.6, the browser SSH path in warpgate-web-ssh/src/manager.rs handles RCEvent::HostKeyUnknown without the presenting hop identity and instead passes ssh_options.host and ssh_options.port for the final target to KnownHosts::trust. In Prompt and AutoAccept modes, a jump host key can therefore be stored for the target address. A machine later presenting the jump host key at the target address can be accepted as the target, allowing interception of user traffic and a newly issued certificate when certificate authentication is used. The native SSH path is unaffected because it tracks each hop separately. This issue is fixed in version 0.27.6.

Improper validation of certificate with host mismatch in AWS IoT Device SDK for Python
Improper validation of certificate with host mismatch in the MQTT client TLS connection layer in AWS IoT Device SDK for Python 1.5.3 through 1.6.0 on Python 3.7 and later might allow an adversary-in-the-middle actor to impersonate the AWS IoT Core endpoint, read device telemetry, and inject arbitrary MQTT messages that the device processes as authentic, via a certificate issued for an unrelated hostname by a certificate authority present in the device trust store.
To remediate this issue, users should upgrade to version 1.6.1.

High · 7.5
CWE-297 Sep 16, 2026
Apache ZooKeeper: Improper validation of certificate with host mismatch in FIPS mode
Apache ZooKeeper quorum TLS fails to enforce peer hostname verification in FIPS-mode deployments. When sslQuorum=true, zookeeper.fips-mode=true, ssl.quorum.hostnameVerification=true, and ssl.quorum.clientHostnameVerification=true are enabled, the Java SSLSocket quorum path accepts a CA-trusted peer certificate whose SAN does not match the connected host. A malicious or misissued peer certificate can therefore join quorum traffic, participate in leader election, and enter replication flows.
Users are recommended to upgrade to version 3.8.7 or 3.9.6, which fixes the issue.

CWE-297 Aug 22, 2026
Netty 4.2.0 through 4.2.16 TLS Hostname Verification Bypass
Netty (io.netty:netty-handler) versions from 4.2.0.Final through 4.2.16.Final and versions through 4.1.136.Final disable TLS hostname verification on the SslProvider.OPENSSL client path when a plain (non-extended) X509TrustManager is used and Unsafe-based trust-manager wrapping is unavailable (Java 25+). In this configuration the OpenSSL client does not perform hostname verification, allowing a man-in-the-middle attacker to present a certificate issued for a different hostname that is accepted without validation. Fixed in 4.2.17.Final and 4.1.137.Final.

CWE-297 Jul 24, 2026
Improper Validation of Certificate in CAS Client
Apereo CAS Client accepts any CA-trusted certificate for any hostname, provided the URL the client is calling matches the configured allowlist or regex. An attacker with a MITM position (DNS poisoning, rogue Wi-Fi, malicious proxy, etc.) can provide any CA-signed certificate for a hostname that matches the configured allowlist or regex. This can lead to intercepting the CAS exchange, capturing the Ticket-Granting Ticket (TGT), and subsequently obtaining Service Tickets on behalf of the victim.
Because maintainers contact attempts were unsuccessful, vulnerabilities have only been confirmed in version 4.1.0 (Java Apereo CAS Client) and 3.6.4 (Jasig CAS Client) but may also affect other versions.
