CVE-2026-53511 High · 8.5 CWE-94 Jul 7, 2026
calibre: Arbitrary Code Execution in Template Formatter via Book Metadata
calibre is an e-book manager. Prior to 9.10.0, a malicious EPUB, OPF, or PDF file can execute arbitrary Python code when its metadata is read by calibre, including through Add books or Edit books, by embedding a custom column definition with a python: template in calibre:user_metadata that is passed unsanitized to exec() in the template formatter. This issue is fixed in version 9.10.0.
CVE-2026-54057 High · 7.8 CWE-94 Jun 12, 2026
Kitty vulnerable to command injection via unsanitized OSC 21 query reply
Kitty is a cross-platform GPU based terminal. In versions prior to 0.47.3, kitty's OSC 21 (color-control) query reply reflects attacker-controlled bytes, including newlines, into the shell's input without sanitization. Version 0.47.3 fixes the issue.
CVE-2026-54056 High · 7.1 CWE-59 Jun 12, 2026
Kitty has an arbitrary file overwrite via symlink following in `kitten dnd` remote drop staging
Kitty is a cross-platform GPU based terminal. In versions 0.47.0 and 0.47.1, `kitten dnd` can allow a malicious remote drag-and-drop source to overwrite or truncate arbitrary files writable by the local kitty user. Remote `text/uri-list` drops are staged in a temporary directory, but on case-sensitive filesystems duplicate remote basenames are not de-duplicated. An attacker can first create a staged symlink and then send a same-name regular-file entry. The regular-file write uses `utils.CreateAt()` / `openat(O_RDWR|O_CREAT|O_TRUNC)` without `O_NOFOLLOW`, so it follows the attacker-created symlink and writes outside the staging directory before final overwrite confirmation runs. This appears related in class to the file-transfer symlink advisory, but it is a different bug: it affects `kitten dnd` remote drag-and-drop staging, uses different vulnerable code (`kittens/dnd/drop.go` and `tools/utils/file_at_fd.go`), and reproduces on commit `4aa4a5c0567a92553a8c20a88a4352da637fca5d`, after the file-transfer `O_NOFOLLOW` fix. Version 0.47.2 patches the issue.
CVE-2026-54055 Medium · 5.0 CWE-59 Jun 12, 2026
Kitty has an Arbitrary File Write via Symlink Race Condition in File Transmission Protocol
Kitty is a cross-platform GPU based terminal. In versions prior to 0.47.2, a local privilege escalation vulnerability exists in kitty's file transmission protocol where a child process running in the terminal can write to arbitrary files on the filesystem by exploiting a TOCTOU (Time-of-Check-Time-of-Use) race condition between symlink validation and file creation. The `os.open()` call used to create files does not use `O_NOFOLLOW`, allowing an attacker to create a symlink between the initial stat check and the actual file open, causing the write to follow the symlink to an arbitrary destination. Version 0.47.2 fixes the issue.
CVE-2026-42851 High · 7.8 CWE-94 Jun 12, 2026
@kitty-edit DCS + --color=geninclude vulnerable to Unauthenticated in-process RCE
Kitty is a cross-platform GPU based terminal. In versions prior to 0.47.0, a program able to write bytes to a kitty terminal — a remote SSH peer, a downloaded file viewed with `cat`, a log line, an email body rendered in `less`, an issue body in a TUI, etc. — can cause kitty to execute attacker-supplied Python inside the running kitty process, with the user's full privileges. There is no approval prompt, no remote-control permission requirement, no shell-integration interaction, no clipboard touch, and no editor interaction. Version 0.47.0 fixes the issue.
CVE-2026-42850 High · 8.8 CWE-77 Jun 12, 2026
Kitty has a shell command injection
Kitty is a cross-platform GPU based terminal. In versions prior to 0.47.0, it is possible to inject commands within the subshell through kitty error. A special escape code will make kitty return an error, this error is not escaped and will be correctly echoed back to the terminal with CRLF, as such it will be run by the shell in use. To exploit this bug, the victim must use a netcat or a similar program to connect to the attacker, or else listening for someone to connect. Once this condition is set, an attacker could pwn the computer of the victim using a special kitty's escape code that will run a command in the shell in use. Version 04.7.0 fixes the issue.
CVE-2026-33642 Critical · 9.8 CWE-125 May 19, 2026
Kitty has a Heap Buffer Over-Read/Write via Integer Overflow in compose_rectangles Bounds Check
Kitty is a cross-platform GPU based terminal. In versions 0.46.2 and below, the handle_compose_command() function in kitty/graphics.c performs bounds validation on composition offsets using unsigned 32-bit arithmetic that is subject to integer wrapping, potentially leading to Heap Buffer Over-Read/Write. An attacker who can write escape sequences to a kitty terminal (e.g., via a malicious file, SSH login banner, or piped content) can supply crafted x_offset/y_offset values that pass the bounds check after wrapping but cause massive out-of-bounds heap memory access in compose_rectangles(). No user interaction is required. No non-default configuration is required. The attacker only needs the ability to produce output in a kitty terminal window. This issue has been fixed in version 0.47.0.
CVE-2026-33633 High · 8.8 CWE-122 May 19, 2026
Kitty has a Heap Buffer Overflow in its Graphics Protocol Handler
Kitty is a cross-platform GPU based terminal. Versions 0.46.2 and below contain a heap buffer overflow in load_image_data() that allows any process which can write to the terminal's stdin to crash kitty immediately. The vulnerability is triggered by a single APC graphics protocol command with a PNG format declaration (f=100) whose payload exceeds twice the initial buffer capacity. The overflow is attacker-controlled in both length and content, causing DoS and potentially escalation to RCE itself. This issue has been fixed in version 0.47.0.
CVE-2026-33206 Medium · 6.3 CWE-23 Mar 27, 2026
calibre has a path traversal vulnerability
calibre is a cross-platform e-book manager for viewing, converting, editing, and cataloging e-books. Prior to version 9.6.0, a path traversal vulnerability exists in Calibre' handling of images in Markdown and other similar text-based files allowing an attacker to include arbitrary files from the file system into the converted book. Additionally, missing authentication and server-side request forgery in the background-image endpoint in the ebook reader web view allow the files to be exfiltrated without additional interaction. Version 9.6.0 contains a fix.
CVE-2026-33205 Medium · 5.5 CWE-918 Mar 27, 2026
calibre has Server-Side Request Forgery in ebook viewer backend
calibre is a cross-platform e-book manager for viewing, converting, editing, and cataloging e-books. Prior to version 9.6.0, a Server-Side Request Forgery vulnerability in the background-image endpoint of calibre e-book reader's web view allows an attacker to perform blind GET requests to arbitrary URLs and exfiltrate information out from the ebook sandbox. Version 9.6.0 patches the issue.
CVE-2026-30853 High · 8.2 CWE-22 Mar 13, 2026
calibre has a Path Traversal Leading to Arbitrary File Write
calibre is a cross-platform e-book manager for viewing, converting, editing, and cataloging e-books. Prior to 9.5.0, a path traversal vulnerability in the RocketBook (.rb) input plugin (src/calibre/ebooks/rb/reader.py) allows an attacker to write arbitrary files to any path writable by the calibre process when a user opens or converts a crafted .rb file. This is the same bug class fixed in CVE-2026-26065 for the PDB readers, but the fix was never applied to the RB reader. This vulnerability is fixed in 9.5.0.
CVE-2026-27824 Medium · 5.3 CWE-307 Feb 27, 2026
calibre has IP Ban Bypass via X-Forwarded-For Header Spoofing
calibre is a cross-platform e-book manager for viewing, converting, editing, and cataloging e-books. Prior to version 9.4.0, the calibre Content Server's brute-force protection mechanism uses a ban key derived from both `remote_addr` and the `X-Forwarded-For` header. Since the `X-Forwarded-For` header is read directly from the HTTP request without any validation or trusted-proxy configuration, an attacker can bypass IP-based bans by simply changing or adding this header, rendering the brute-force protection completely ineffective. This is particularly dangerous for calibre servers exposed to the internet, where brute-force protection is the primary defense against credential stuffing and password guessing attacks. Version 9.4.0 contains a fix for the issue.
CVE-2026-27810 Medium · 6.4 CWE-113 Feb 27, 2026
calibre Vulnerable to HTTP Response Header Injection
calibre is a cross-platform e-book manager for viewing, converting, editing, and cataloging e-books. Prior to version 9.4.0, an HTTP Response Header Injection vulnerability in the calibre Content Server allows any authenticated user to inject arbitrary HTTP headers into server responses via an unsanitized `content_disposition` query parameter in the `/get/` and `/data-files/get/` endpoints. All users running the calibre Content Server with authentication enabled are affected. The vulnerability is exploitable by any authenticated user and can also be triggered by tricking an authenticated victim into clicking a crafted link. Version 9.4.0 contains a fix for the issue.
CVE-2026-26065 High · 8.8 CWE-22 Feb 19, 2026
calibre: Path Traversal can Lead to Arbitrary File Write and Potential Code Execution
calibre is a cross-platform e-book manager for viewing, converting, editing, and cataloging e-books. Versions 9.2.1 and below are vulnerable to Path Traversal through PDB readers (both 132-byte and 202-byte header variants) that allow arbitrary file writes with arbitrary extension and arbitrary content anywhere the user has write permissions. Files are written in 'wb' mode, silently overwriting existing files. This can lead to potential code execution and Denial of Service through file corruption. This issue has been fixed in version 9.3.0.
CVE-2026-26064 High · 8.8 CWE-22 Feb 19, 2026
calibre: Path Traversal Vulnerability Enables Arbitrary File Write and Remote Code Execution
calibre is a cross-platform e-book manager for viewing, converting, editing, and cataloging e-books. Versions 9.2.1 and below contain a Path Traversal vulnerability that allows arbitrary file writes anywhere the user has write permissions. On Windows, this leads to Remote Code Execution by writing a payload to the Startup folder, which executes on next login. Function extract_pictures only checks startswith('Pictures'), and does not sanitize '..' sequences. calibre's own ZipFile.extractall() in utils/zipfile.py does sanitize '..' via _get_targetpath(), but extract_pictures() bypasses this by using manual zf.read() + open(). This issue has been fixed in version 9.3.0.
CVE-2026-25731 High · 7.8 CWE-1336 Feb 6, 2026
Calibre Affected by Arbitrary Code Execution via Server-Side Template Injection in Calibre HTML Export
calibre is an e-book manager. Prior to 9.2.0, a Server-Side Template Injection (SSTI) vulnerability in Calibre's Templite templating engine allows arbitrary code execution when a user converts an ebook using a malicious custom template file via the --template-html or --template-html-index command-line options. This vulnerability is fixed in 9.2.0.
CVE-2026-25636 High · 7.8 CWE-22 Feb 6, 2026
calibre has a Path Traversal Leading to Arbitrary File Corruption and Code Execution
calibre is an e-book manager. In 9.1.0 and earlier, a path traversal vulnerability in Calibre's EPUB conversion allows a malicious EPUB file to corrupt arbitrary existing files writable by the Calibre process. During conversion, Calibre resolves CipherReference URI from META-INF/encryption.xml to an absolute filesystem path and opens it in read-write mode, even when it points outside the conversion extraction directory. This vulnerability is fixed in 9.2.0.
CVE-2026-25635 High · 8.6 CWE-22 Feb 6, 2026
calibre has a Path Traversal Leading to Arbitrary File Write and Potential Code Execution
calibre is an e-book manager. Prior to 9.2.0, Calibre's CHM reader contains a path traversal vulnerability that allows arbitrary file writes anywhere the user has write permissions. On Windows (haven't tested on other OS's), this can lead to Remote Code Execution by writing a payload to the Startup folder, which executes on next login. This vulnerability is fixed in 9.2.0.
CVE-2025-64486 Critical · 9.3 CWE-73 Nov 7, 2025
calibre is vulnerable to arbitrary code execution when opening FB2 files
calibre is an e-book manager. In versions 8.13.0 and prior, calibre does not validate filenames when handling binary assets in FB2 files, allowing an attacker to write arbitrary files on the filesystem when viewing or converting a malicious FictionBook file. This can be leveraged to achieve arbitrary code execution. This issue is fixed in version 8.14.0.
