CVE-2026-59183 Média · 5.5 CWE-190 24/08/2026
OpenEXR: Signed Integer Overflow Leading to Out-of-Bounds Memory Access in Deep Tile Decoding
OpenEXR is the reference implementation and specification for the EXR image format, widely used in the motion picture industry. In versions 3.1.0 through 3.2.10, 3.3.0 through 3.3.12, and 3.4.0 through 3.4.13, an int32_t multiplication in OpenEXRCore's unpack_sample_table() can overflow while decoding a crafted deep tiled EXR file, producing an invalid pointer that leads to a read from an unmapped memory address and a crash. Because the overflow occurs in the standard decoding path (exr_decoding_run), any application that decodes deep tiled EXR files is affected. This issue is fixed in versions 3.2.11, 3.3.13, and 3.4.14.
CVE-2026-55373 Média · 6.2 CWE-190 24/08/2026
OpenEXR: OpenEXRUtil SampleCountChannel endEdit() can loop forever on UINT_MAX sample counts
OpenEXR is the reference implementation and specification for the EXR image format, widely used in the motion picture industry. Versions prior to 3.2.10, 3.3.12, and 3.4.13 contain an infinite-loop vulnerability in SampleCountChannel. The helper roundListSizeUp() rounds a sample-list size up to the next power of two using repeated unsigned left shifts, which terminates for normal values but fails for UINT_MAX: the sequence reaches 0x80000000, and the next left shift wraps the 32-bit value to 0. Because 0 remains less than UINT_MAX, the loop never progresses and never exits. The bug is reachable through public OpenEXRUtil APIs, either by editing the sample-count buffer through SampleCountChannel::Edit (whose destructor calls endEdit()) or by calling SampleCountChannel::set(x, y, UINT_MAX) on a valid pixel. This issue has been fixed in versions 3.2.10, 3.3.12, and 3.4.13.
CVE-2026-55371 Média · 6.9 CWE-20 24/08/2026
OpenEXR: OpenEXRCore exr_attr_set_bytes() accepts NULL type_hint with positive hint_length
OpenEXR is the reference implementation and specification for the EXR high-dynamic-range image file format, widely used in the motion picture industry. Versions 3.4.0 through 3.4.12 contain a NULL pointer dereference in the OpenEXRCore function exr_attr_set_bytes(). The public setter validates the top-level exr_attr_bytes_t value pointer but does not verify that the nested type_hint pointer is non-NULL when hint_length is greater than zero. When a caller supplies a positive hint_length together with a NULL type_hint, exr_attr_bytes_create() allocates a destination type-hint buffer and then copies from the NULL source pointer, causing a deterministic crash. The flaw is reachable through the public OpenEXRCore C API and results in a denial of service. The issue is fixed in version 3.4.13.
CVE-2026-55059 Média · 6.1 CWE-787 24/08/2026
OpenEXR: OpenEXRUtil SampleCountChannel row setter heap has an out-of-bounds write vulnerability
OpenEXR is the reference implementation and specification for the EXR image format, widely used in the motion picture industry. Versions prior to 3.2.10, 3.3.12 and 3.4.13 contain a heap out-of-bounds write in Imf_4_0::SampleCountChannel::set(int r, unsigned int newNumSamples[]). The row-based sample-count setter computes the target Y coordinate with dataWindow.min.x instead of dataWindow.min.y. For a valid deep image data window where min.x != min.y, a valid row index can be translated into an invalid Y coordinate, causing writes before the allocated _numSamples buffer. The vulnerability is reachable through the public OpenEXRUtil DeepImage API and can lead to heap corruption and process crashes. This issue has been fixed in versions 3.2.10, 3.3.12 and 3.4.13.
CVE-2026-54920 Nenhuma · 0.0 CWE-190 24/08/2026
OpenEXR: Integer overflow and uninitialized pointer cause invalid delete in OpenEXRUtil image resize
OpenEXR is the reference implementation and specification for the EXR image format, widely used in the motion picture industry. In versions 3.4.0 through 3.4.12, a reachable assertion failure in the HTJ2K decode path allows a crafted HTJ2K-compressed EXR file to cause an unconditional process abort in any application that calls exr_start_read() on untrusted input, resulting in denial of service. The crash is triggered by a QCD marker whose lower five bits are zero, which OpenEXR passes into the vendored OpenJPH library while constructing the codestream and evaluating its quantization delta parameters. OpenJPH uses an assertion rather than a recoverable error to validate those bits, so any invalid value calls abort() directly and cannot be intercepted by surrounding error handling, a problem compounded by OpenEXR wrapping only its internal HT header parser in error handling while leaving the later codestream read and construction calls unprotected. This issue has been resolved in version 3.4.13.
CVE-2026-53532 Alta · 7.1 CWE-617 24/08/2026
OpenEXR: Unhandled assert abort in HTJ2K decoder via crafted QCD marker (DoS)
OpenEXR is the reference implementation and specification for the EXR image format, widely used in the motion picture industry. In versions 3.4.0 through 3.4.12, a crafted HTJ2K-compressed EXR file causes an unconditional process abort in any application that calls exr_start_read() on untrusted input, resulting in denial of service.
CVE-2026-68516 Média · 6.5 CWE-121 24/08/2026
OpenEXR: HTJ2K SIZ image-offset gap stack buffer overflow
OpenEXR is the reference implementation and specification for the EXR image format, widely used in the motion picture industry. From version 3.4.0 through 3.4.13, a crafted HTJ2K-compressed EXR can crash OpenEXR during normal decode. An HTJ2K-compressed EXR whose JPEG 2000 SIZ fields place the first tile outside the visible image can reach invalid tile and codeblock geometry in the vendored OpenJPH AVX2 decoder, causing a stack out-of-bounds write and denial of service. OpenEXR's HTJ2K path validates the decoded codestream dimensions against the EXR chunk size, but it does not reject SIZ image-offset/tile-grid geometry where the first tile does not intersect the image. This issue is fixed in version 3.4.14.
CVE-2026-42450 Alta · 8.4 CWE-120 24/06/2026
OpenColorIO vulnerable to stack buffer overflow via unbounded `sscanf %s` in Spi3D (.spi3d) LUT parser
OpenColorIO is a color management framework for visual effects and animation. Prior to version 2.5.2, `FileFormatSpi3D.cpp:163` uses `sscanf` with `%s` into 64-byte stack buffers when parsing LUT data lines. Input comes from `lineBuffer[4096]`, so a crafted .spi3d file can overflow by ~4000 bytes on non-Windows. Version 2.5.2 fixes the issue.
CVE-2026-45696 Média · 6.5 CWE-122 18/06/2026
OpenEXR HTJ2K decoder heap buffer over-read in ht_undo_impl() (DoS)
OpenEXR is the reference implementation and specification for the EXR image format, widely used in the motion picture industry. In versions 3.4.0 through 3.4.11, the HTJ2K (High-Throughput JPEG 2000) decoder, ht_undo_impl() in OpenEXRCore is vulnerable to a heap-buffer-overflow READ. The ht_undo_imp function copies decoded pixels out of a per-line OpenJPH buffer using the EXR channel's declared width as the iteration count. The codestream embedded in the EXR chunk can declare different (smaller) tile/line dimensions than the EXR header advertises, but ht_undo_impl() does not validate this — it pulls width 32-bit samples from cur_line->i32[] without checking the OpenJPH line buffer's actual length. A crafted EXR file produces a 4-byte heap-buffer-overflow READ immediately after a buffer allocated by ojph::local::codestream::finalize_alloc(). The bug is reachable through the standard scanline-decode entry point used by every consumer of exr_decoding_run/Imf::checkOpenEXRFile, including thumbnailers, asset pipelines, and the exrcheck utility — i.e. any application that opens untrusted EXR files. The result is a deterministic crash (DoS) and potential adjacent-heap leak. This issue has been fixed in version 3.4.12.
CVE-2026-44663 Alta · 7.1 CWE-190 18/06/2026
OpenEXR: Integer overflow in the HTJ2K decoder leads to heap-buffer-overflow
OpenEXR is the reference implementation and specification for the EXR image format, widely used in the motion picture industry. In versions 3.4.0 through 3.4.11, an integer overflow in ht_undo_impl() in src/lib/OpenEXRCore/internal_ht.cpp leads to a heap-buffer overflow when decoding a crafted HTJ2K-compressed EXR file. decode->channels[i].width (int32_t) is multiplied by bytes_per_element in 32-bit signed arithmetic. With large widths (e.g., >= 536870912 for FLOAT data), this overflows, producing a corrupted offset that is later used for pointer arithmetic and can cause a heap out-of-bounds write. The same unchecked multiplication pattern appears in two other HTJ2K paths (bytes-per-line accumulation and pixel-line pointer advancement). As with related CVE-2026-34378 through CVE-2026-34589 fixes in other codecs, validating only after the multiplication is too late because the value may already be overflowed. This issue has been fixed in version 3.4.12.

OpenImageIO: Integer wraparound in bounds check of decode_pixel leads to out-of-bounds read in TGA paletted image decoder
OpenImageIO is a toolset for reading, writing, and manipulating image files of any image file format relevant to VFX / animation. Prior to 3.0.18.0 and 3.1.13.0, the bounds check in TGAInput::decode_pixel computes k + palbytespp as unsigned 32-bit arithmetic. When k = 0xFFFFFFFC and palbytespp = 4, the addition wraps to 0, which compares less than palette_alloc_size and passes the check. The subsequent palette access uses the unwrapped k (0xFFFFFFFC) as the index, reading ~4 GB past the start of the palette buffer — SEGV. This vulnerability is fixed in 3.0.18.0 and 3.1.13.0.
CVE-2026-43909 Alta · 8.8 CWE-125 14/05/2026
OpenImageIO: Signed integer overflow in SwapRGBABytes loop index leads to out-of-bounds read/write in DPX ABGR decoder
OpenImageIO is a toolset for reading, writing, and manipulating image files of any image file format relevant to VFX / animation. Prior to 3.0.18.0 and 3.1.13.0, a signed 32-bit integer overflow in the loop index expression i * 4 inside SwapRGBABytes() causes the function to compute a large negative pointer offset when processing kABGR DPX images with large dimensions. The immediate crash is an out-of-bounds read (the memcpy at line 45 reads from &input[i * 4] first), but the subsequent write operations at lines 46–49 target the same wrapped offset — making this a combined OOB read+write primitive. This vulnerability is fixed in 3.0.18.0 and 3.1.13.0.
CVE-2026-43908 Alta · 8.8 CWE-190 14/05/2026
OpenImageIO: Signed integer overflow in ConvertCbYCrYToRGB leads to heap out-of-bounds write in DPX 4:2:2 decoder
OpenImageIO is a toolset for reading, writing, and manipulating image files of any image file format relevant to VFX / animation. Prior to 3.0.18.0 and 3.1.13.0, a signed 32-bit integer overflow in the pixel-loop index expression i * 3 inside ConvertCbYCrYToRGB() causes the function to compute a large negative pointer offset into the output buffer, producing an out-of-bounds write that crashes the process. This vulnerability is fixed in 3.0.18.0 and 3.1.13.0.
CVE-2026-43907 Alta · 8.3 CWE-190 14/05/2026
OpenImageIO: Integer overflow in QueryRGBBufferSizeInternal leads to heap out-of-bounds write in DPX decoder (kCbYCr and kABGR)
OpenImageIO is a toolset for reading, writing, and manipulating image files of any image file format relevant to VFX / animation. Prior to 3.0.18.0 and 3.1.13.0, a signed integer overflow in QueryRGBBufferSizeInternal() in DPXColorConverter.cpp leads to a heap-based out-of-bounds write when processing crafted DPX image files. The function computes buffer sizes using 32-bit signed integer arithmetic with negative multipliers (e.g., pixels * -3 * bytes for kCbYCr descriptors and pixels * -4 * bytes for kABGR descriptors), where a negative result is used as an in-band signal that no separate buffer is needed. When the pixel count is sufficiently large, the multiplication overflows INT_MIN and wraps to a small positive value. The caller in dpxinput.cpp interprets this positive value as a required buffer size, allocates an undersized heap buffer via m_decodebuf.resize(), and then writes the full image data into it via fread, resulting in a heap buffer overflow. An attacker can exploit this by crafting a DPX file that triggers the overflow, causing a denial of service (crash) or potentially arbitrary code execution through heap corruption in any application that reads pixel data using OpenImageIO. This vulnerability is fixed in 3.0.18.0 and 3.1.13.0.
CVE-2026-43906 Alta · 7.8 CWE-122 14/05/2026
OpenImageIO: HEIF Heap overflow
OpenImageIO is a toolset for reading, writing, and manipulating image files of any image file format relevant to VFX / animation. Prior to 3.0.18.0 and 3.1.13.0, a heap-based buffer overflow in the HEIF decoder of OpenImageIO allows out-of-bounds writes via crafted images due to a subimage metadata mismatch, leading to memory corruption and potential code execution. This vulnerability is fixed in 3.0.18.0 and 3.1.13.0.
CVE-2026-43905 Alta · 7.8 CWE-190 14/05/2026
OpenImageIO: JPEG2000 (OpenJPH) signed integer overflow in buffer allocation
OpenImageIO is a toolset for reading, writing, and manipulating image files of any image file format relevant to VFX / animation. Prior to 3.0.18.0 and 3.1.13.0, jpeg2000input.cpp:395 computes buffer size as const int bufsize = w * h * ch * buffer_bpp using signed 32-bit arithmetic. When the product exceeds INT_MAX, the result wraps to 0 or a small value. m_buf.resize() allocates an undersized buffer, and subsequent pixel write loops cause heap overflow. Conditional on USE_OPENJPH build flag. This vulnerability is fixed in 3.0.18.0 and 3.1.13.0.
CVE-2026-43904 Alta · 7.8 CWE-787 14/05/2026
OpenImageIO: Softimage PIC RLE decoder heap buffer overflow — longCount not clamped to image width
OpenImageIO is a toolset for reading, writing, and manipulating image files of any image file format relevant to VFX / animation. Prior to 3.0.18.0 and 3.1.13.0, softimageinput.cpp:469 (mixed RLE) and :345 (pure RLE) do not clamp the run length to remaining scanline width before writing pixels. The raw packet path (line 403) correctly clamps with std::min, but RLE paths skip this check. A crafted .pic file causes heap overflow up to 65535 bytes. This vulnerability is fixed in 3.0.18.0 and 3.1.13.0.
CVE-2026-43903 Alta · 7.8 CWE-787 14/05/2026
OpenImageIO: SGI RLE decoder heap buffer overflow OIIO_DASSERT bounds checks are no-ops in release builds
OpenImageIO is a toolset for reading, writing, and manipulating image files of any image file format relevant to VFX / animation. Prior to 3.0.18.0 and 3.1.13.0, sgiinput.cpp:265,274 use OIIO_DASSERT for bounds checking in the RLE decode loop. In release builds, OIIO_DASSERT compiles to ((void)sizeof(x)) (dassert.h:210), making all bounds checks no-ops. A crafted .sgi file with RLE count exceeding scanline width causes heap buffer overflow and crash. This vulnerability is fixed in 3.0.18.0 and 3.1.13.0.

OpenEXR: Shift exponent overflow in `readVariableLengthInteger()` (`ImfIDManifest.cpp`)
OpenEXR provides the specification and reference implementation of the EXR file format, an image storage format for the motion picture industry. From versions 3.0.0 to before 3.2.9, 3.3.0 to before 3.3.11, and 3.4.0 to before 3.4.11, readVariableLengthInteger() decodes a variable-length integer from untrusted EXR input without bounding the shift count. After enough continuation bytes, the code executes a left shift by 70 on a 64-bit value, which is undefined behavior. This issue has been patched in versions 3.2.9, 3.3.11, and 3.4.11.
CVE-2026-42216 Crítica · 9.1 CWE-125 07/05/2026
OpenEXR: Out-of-bounds read in `IDManifest::init()` during prefix expansion
OpenEXR provides the specification and reference implementation of the EXR file format, an image storage format for the motion picture industry. From versions 3.0.0 to before 3.2.9, 3.3.0 to before 3.3.11, and 3.4.0 to before 3.4.11, IDManifest::init() reconstructs strings from a prefix-compressed representation. If the previous string is longer than 255 bytes, the next string is expected to begin with a 2-byte prefix length. The code reads stringList[i][0] and stringList[i][1] without checking that the current string has at least two bytes. This issue has been patched in versions 3.2.9, 3.3.11, and 3.4.11.

OpenEXR has integer overflow in DWA decoder outBufferEnd pointer arithmetic (missed variant of CVE-2026-34589)
OpenEXR provides the specification and reference implementation of the EXR file format, an image storage format for the motion picture industry. In versions 3.4.0 through 3.4.9, 3.3.0 through 3.3.9, and 3.2.0 through 3.2.7, `internal_dwa_compressor.h:1040` performs `chan->width * chan->bytes_per_element` in `int32` arithmetic without a `(size_t)` cast. This is the same overflow pattern fixed in other decoders by CVE-2026-34589/34588/34544, but this line was missed. Versions 3.4.10, 3.3.10, and 3.2.8 contain a fix that addresses `internal_dwa_compressor.h:1040`.

OpenEXR has HTJ2K Signed Integer Overflow in ht_undo_impl()
OpenEXR provides the specification and reference implementation of the EXR file format, an image storage format for the motion picture industry. Versions 3.4.0 through 3.4.9 have a signed integer overflow vulnerability in OpenEXR's HTJ2K (High-Throughput JPEG 2000) decompression path. The `ht_undo_impl()` function in `src/lib/OpenEXRCore/internal_ht.cpp` accumulates a bytes-per-line value (`bpl`) using a 32-bit signed integer with no overflow guard. A crafted EXR file with 16,385 FLOAT channels at the HTJ2K maximum width of 32,767 causes `bpl` to overflow `INT_MAX`, producing undefined behavior confirmed by UBSan. On an allocator-permissive host where the required ~64 GB allocation succeeds, the wrapped negative `bpl` value would subsequently be used as a per-scanline pointer advance, which would produce a heap out-of-bounds write. On a memory-constrained host, the allocation fails before `ht_undo_impl()` is entered. This is the second distinct integer overflow in `ht_undo_impl()`. CVE-2026-34545 addressed a different overflow in the same function — the `int16_t p` pixel-loop counter at line ~302 that overflows when iterating over channels whose `width` exceeds 32,767. The CVE-2026-34545 fix did not touch the `int bpl` accumulator at line 211, which is the subject of this advisory. The `bpl` accumulator was also not addressed by any of the 8 advisories in the 2026-04-05 v3.4.9 release batch. This finding is structurally identical to CVE-2026-34588 (PIZ `wcount*nx` overflow in `internal_piz.c`) and should be remediated with the same pattern. The CVE-2026-34588 fix did not touch `internal_ht.cpp`. Version 3.4.10 contains a remediation that addresses the vulnerability in `internal_ht.cpp`.
