CVE-2026-52987 — drm/amdgpu: avoid double drm_exec_fini() in userq validate

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/amdgpu: avoid double drm_exec_fini() in userq validate When new_addition is true, amdgpu_userq_vm_validate() calls drm_exec_fini(&exec) before iterating over the collected HMM ranges and calling amdgpu_ttm_tt_get_user_pages(). If amdgpu_ttm_tt_get_user_pages() fails in that path, the code jumps to unlock_all and calls drm_exec_fini(&exec) a second time on the same exec object. drm_exec_fini() is not idempotent: it frees exec->objects and may also drop exec->contended and finalize the ww acquire context. Route that error path directly to the range cleanup once exec has already been finalized. Issue found using a prototype static analysis tool and confirmed by code review. Who exploits it and how urgent it is

A 0–100 score combining confirmed exploitation, ransomware and APT use, public exploits, EPSS and severity.

No exploitation signal in the sources consulted so far.
How the score was calculated
  • EPSS 0.2% (30-day exploitation probability)+1
  • Technical severity (high)+6

The score orders the patch queue; it does not replace your asset context (internet exposure, criticality, compensating controls).

Triage

Is it exploited, how likely is exploitation, what does it touch, and how severe do the sources call it.

First 24 hours

Ordered from the record’s own fields — exposure first, because you cannot patch what you have not found. A rule-generated starting point.

  1. Identify exposed assets running the affected vendor/product/version combinations (Linux Linux, Linux Linux Kernel).
  2. Apply the fixed version or the patch documented under Remediation.
  3. Search available logs for exploit probes, errors and authentication anomalies.

What should defenders know first?

CVE-2026-52987 is "drm/amdgpu: avoid double drm_exec_fini() in userq validate", rated High. It affects Linux (Linux); versions are in the scope table. It is not in CISA KEV, which does not rule out exploitation. CVSS 7.8 describes technical severity. EPSS 0.18% estimates the probability of exploitation in 30 days; neither replaces your asset context. First verify whether exposed or business-critical assets run the affected versions, apply vendor fixes or mitigations, and preserve logs for review.
